Peyronie’s Disease

Curvature That Leads to Pain and Dysfunction

Peyronie’s disease is a condition that causes penile curvature. It affects approximately 1% of men. By causing penile deformity and making it difficult to achieve a rigid erection, this condition can impair a man’s ability to have intercourse. Fortunately, Peyronie’s disease can be effectively treated. The SUS experts may use oral therapy, intralesional injection therapy or, if needed, recommend surgical correction. SUS maintains relationships with renowned penile reconstructive surgeons in order to provide the best possible outcome for its patients.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie’s diagnosis typically stems from our review of a client’s history, as well as a physical exam. In some cases, however, we’ll use medication to induce an erection in order to assess the degree of penile deformity; advanced vascular testing with penile Doppler will determine the precise amount of blood supply to the penis as well.

Peyronie’s often exists alongside other sexual disorders such as erectile dysfunction and testosterone deficiency. When clinically indicated we may perform additional tests to ascertain whether these are contributing to the problem.

Treatment of Peyronie’s is highly specialized, based on factors that include severity of the disease, a patient’s sexual goals and whether any other sexual conditions are in play. Several oral therapies, as well as intra-lesional injections, can be of help depending on the severity of the condition. Should we determine the presence of coexisting sexual disorders, we’ll treat those as well. In some instances, Peyronie’s may not respond to non-surgical treatment; should surgery be necessary, our experts will advise you on the appropriate procedure.
