Prostate Cancer Screening
The experts at SUS have experience in the proper use of PSA screening and also offer newer prostate cancer screening technologies including “percent free PSA” testing and “prostate cancer antigen-3” testing. We also help each patient determine the appropriate frequency for screening tests – based on his personal background. When the screening test indicates the possibility of prostate cancer, we perform an “ultrasound guided prostate biopsy” to find out if cancer is actually present. The patient will be comfortable throughout this state-of-the-art procedure. Biopsy samples are sent to a pathology lab for DNA-based testing: the most accurate diagnostic process available today.
Developing a Treatment Plan
When a patient is diagnosed with prostate cancer, we help him develop a personalized treatment plan that may involve surgery, radiation, or both. The most sophisticated surgical approach developed to date, “robot assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy,” is not available locally. However, when one of our patients chooses this option as part of his treatment plan, the SUS experts will make the necessary referrals and arrangements with the specialists at a leading university hospital.
